 Product Technology Center

Develop New Products and Processes

The Nestlé Purina PetCare Product Technology Center (PTC) is a global Research and Development Center. Nestlé Purina PetCare PTC has research facilities around the world, including three in the United States, one in Europe and one in Asia. The central role of the PTC is the development of new products and processes crucial to advancing the nutritional needs of dogs and cats.

This collaborative network of scientists and engineers allows for the global exchange of ideas concerning dogs and cats. Scientists specializing in fields such as molecular biology, nutritional biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, and protein and lipid metabolism help to drive the innovative science behind Nestlé Purina products. The PTC is instrumental in providing information about the nutritional content of food in relation to a pet’s needs and assessing the palatability and digestibility properties of food.

Nestlé Purina also has facilities where scientists test new concepts in feeding studies with dogs and cats. Nutritionists, palatability experts, and animal care technicians work closely with the cats and dogs to learn ways to promote the lifelong health and well-being of pets.

Innovative production and packaging processes are evaluated to ensure that they positively affect the pet food products being produced. Engineers and production experts devise new ways to process and package formulas in the pet food pilot plants.

Career Paths You Can Take

Most jobs within the PTC relate in some way to the development of new products and technologies for the production of pet food and / or the elimination of pet waste (e.g. cat litter). The main functional areas include Process or Mechanical Engineering, Animal Nutrition, Food Science, Packaging Engineering & Design.

There are three primary career paths or specializations available to associates within the PTC: the Technical Expertise path, the Project Management path, and the People Management path. For recent college graduates these paths usually become clearer once an employee has several years of experience within the organization. Some common titles of associates in the PTC include:
